In the Spotlight this week is the 22nd Annual AFI FEST, one of the most influential film events in North America. AFI FEST highlights the work of undiscovered, cutting-edge filmmakers alongside premieres from some of Hollywood's most respected directors.

Acquisition of feature films for global distribution has become a routine occurrence at AFI FEST. Last year alone, 23 of the Festival's official selections secured US and/or foreign distribution, or sold remake rights, involving companies CineClick, IFC Entertainment, Seville Pictures, Tartan Films, THINKFilm, The Weinstein Company, Zeitgeist, and more.

Celebrated works such as MONSTER; OSAMA; CITY OF GOD; LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL; TSOTSI; AMORES PERROS and O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? have all been launched at AFI FEST. Academy Award qualifying in the short film categories, AFI FEST is also the only film festival in the US to hold the prestigious FIAPF accreditation.

Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Film/Video/New Genres, with an emphasis on motion graphics and animation, tenure-track or tenured, nine month (academic year), faculty appointment in the Film Department, Peck School of the Arts

Starting Date: August 18, 2008

Position The UWM Film Department is seeking a media

Description: artist, with an emphasis on motion graphics & animation, to be appointed to a tenure track/tenured position in a department that has a long-standing commitment to experimental and innovative teaching, research and artistic practice. Qualified candidates will have a facility across a range of moving image media and demonstrate a strong record of personal creative activity. Responsibilities will include developing curriculum, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, providing service to the department, as well as an ongoing commitment to artistic production. Areas of interest include motion graphics, 2/3D animation, digital environments, compositing and effects.

The Film Department offers a BFA with three tracks --Film/Video/New Genres, Conceptual Studies and Photography -- and an MFA in filmmaking/moving image media. Our curricula emphasize the ongoing collaboration of artists and scholars from a variety of disciplines, as well as from the other arts.

Qualifications: Degree in the field and a strong body of production work is required. Terminal degree is preferred. Teaching experience at the college level is desired.

Salary & Rank: Position is tenure-track or tenured. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

PSOA & UWM: The UWM Peck School of the Arts (PSOA), www.arts.uwm.edu, is composed of five academic departments (dance, film, music, theatre, and visual arts), plus an inter-arts degree program that includes the interdisciplinary DIVAS track. It is also home to the UWM Institute of Visual Arts (Inova), which coordinates exhibits in four campus galleries. The PSOA is one of the largest arts presenters in Milwaukee, scheduling over 350 visual, performing and media arts events each year. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), www.uwm.edu, is one of two public doctoral research universities in the state of Wisconsin. Animation / Cinema Studies
Regent University is an accredited Christian university with a commitment to scholarly integrity and academic excellence. The School of Communication and the Arts is seeking a full-time faculty member in the area of animation/cinema studies within the department of Cinema-Television. Qualifications: A Ph.D., or M.F.A. in animation or related field of study with significant animation industry experience. A distinguished career in animation at the national level is also considered, in lieu of a terminal degree.

MAYA software experience required. Cinema production experience is a plus. Duties include teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate level as well as serving on various committees, portfolios and senior projects. This position is effective fall 2008. Candidates must subscribe to statement of Christian faith.
